Eli Lilly and Company, the maker of Lilly's famous erectile dysfunction drug Cialis, is considering selling the rights to its erectile dysfunction drugs to the United States, a major U. S. company said Wednesday.
Cialis, Lilly's best-known drug for treating erectile dysfunction, will become available for generic approval in the United States on Monday, Lilly spokeswoman Michele Jang said. "We are excited about the launch of the new generic Cialis," Jang said, noting that the company has already received approval from the U. Food and Drug Administration to market the drug in the U.
In its submission, Lilly said that it has received approval for Cialis to treat male sexual dysfunction, which affects a significant portion of men in the U. It also said that it is not planning on marketing Cialis to the U. market.
Cialis, made by Lilly, is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, but it has also been used off-label for treating other medical conditions, Jang said. Lilly said it has approved Cialis for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in the U. and is looking at expanding its U. application to include Cialis for treating other conditions, Jang added.
For reference, Cialis is currently available on the U. market, Jang said, noting that Lilly also has an application for approval for Cialis to treat a new condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. This condition is also known as "benign prostatic hyperplasia," or BPH.
While Cialis is known as an erectile dysfunction drug, the drug can be prescribed for the treatment of BPH in men with a normal or enlarged prostate. Under the plan, Lilly will only cover the coverage of medications that are approved by the FDA for use by adults, as well as those for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Lilly will not cover other prescription drugs like Cialis, which is not approved for erectile dysfunction treatment, Jang said.
